Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) honors the way bodies actually work to restore or create optimal range-of-motion. Feel your muscles, tendons, and fascia becoming elasticized with each two-second stretch! Fifty percent of the muscles in the human body are difficult to palpate.
Over the past forty-five years, world-renowned kinesiotherapist Aaron Mattes has created a system to access every motor muscle with this assisted stretching technique. Every micro-movement potential, joint crossing, and angle of muscle fiber has been analyzed to produce protocols of over 400 specific stretches. Oxygenating tissues, realigning muscle and fascial fibers, and how AIS heals deep fascial planes (i.e. the meridians) are explored. While non-professionals with a working knowledge of anatomy are welcome, this workshop is designed primarily for bodyworkers, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and nurses and other health professionals who want to expand their ways of working with their clients and patients by learning this new flexibility paradigm. Bodywork and health professionals will recognize the scientific principles that make it so effective. Neuromuscular re-programming, myofascial release, and restructuring are intrinsic to The Mattes Method. Participants practice these stretches with each other on massage tables. (There is no nudity necessary for this work.) Mindful movement on the part of the practitioner is rehearsed.
AIS is for those who are ready to move beyond the dogma of the long-held static stretch, and into the state-of-the-art two-second stretch.
